There are different immigration programs that allow people to enter the United States and/or stay in the United States because they may be in danger.


U-Visa

If you were the victim of a certain crime and suffered mental or physical abuse and are helpful to law enforcement or government officials in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity, you may be eligible to apply for this type of visa.


You may be eligible for a U nonimmigrant visa if:


or You are the victim of qualifying criminal activity.

or You have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse as a result of being a victim of criminal activity.

o You have information about criminal activity. If you are under 16 or unable to provide information due to a disability, a parent, guardian, or close friend may have the information about the crime on your behalf.

o Was helpful, is helpful, or is likely to be helpful to law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime. If you are under 16 or unable to provide information due to a disability, a parent, guardian, or close friend can assist law enforcement on your behalf.

o Cooperate actively with state authorities in the investigation of the crime.

o The crime occurred in the United States or violated United States law.

o You are admissible to the United States. If you are not admissible, you can apply for a waiver or waiver with Form I-192, Application for Advance Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant.
